The Air Waves I

Just thought I'd throw a few suggestions to what you should be listening to at the moment via a combination of the medium of youtube and my words and stuff.

Tom Vek - A Chore

2005 was the last time Tom Vek reared his head, with his first album We Have Sound. A very good debut that now appears as a few years ahead of its time. It wasn't a great seller and he is hardly a household name, but the recent surge in popularity of bands with a similar brand of music, like Friendly Fires, give Vek a much better foundation for success in 2011. His album is out on June 6th, and I fully intend to get it.

Battles - Ice Cream

Despite having heard of Battles in 2007 when they first burst on to the scene with their album Mirrored, I never really hit it off with them straight away. They aren't the easiest listen and you do have to give them time. But when you do get head around them they just don't stop giving. Ice Cream, the first single off their new album Gloss Drop, is no different. Their sound is entirely unique and well worth a go. Gloss Drop is also out on June 6th.

Deerhunter - Desire Lines

A bit delayed with this one, the album this amazing track comes from, Halcyon Digest, came out in 2010. Easily in my top 5 albums of that year it's as deep and epic an album you could come across, all well hidden behind a wall of melancholy. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was their fourth album, and whilst I can curse myself for being a Johnny come lately, it sure is nice to have a lot to catch up on.

Baths - Indoorsy

Another delayed reaction on my part, and another from my top 5 albums of 2010. Much like Battles, Baths are in a genre of their own. Or should I say his own, Will Wiesenfeld is responsible for everything on offer on the album Cerulean, and it is bloody good. A strange combination of at times near unlistenable off kilter beats and beautiful soundscapes. As my nonsense suggests, it's hard to describe. Just listen to it.
